Crazy Socks

When I was engaged to my wife I learned a valuable lesson. I called it the 3 Yes 1 No Rule, and this is how it worked; Every time my wife or my mother-in-law asked for my opinion about wedding plans regardless of what it was I would say yes three times in a row followed by a no. No matter what I said, they would still do exactly what they wanted to do. (At the beginning I was naïve and thought that my opinion actually mattered. They asked me what I wanted for the dessert at the reception. I told them how warm brownies, vanilla ice cream and chocolate fudge was my all-time favorite dessert ever. And I honestly think that was the last time that was ever mentioned. We had cobbler. Still good, but the next time they asked my opinion for the dessert it was between cobbler and pie. I asked what happened to the brownie idea and they both just laughed at me… I still don’t understand what was so funny.) Anyways, I digress… Back to the 3 Yes 1 No rule, like I said, they would do whatever they wanted regardless of what I said, but it was important to them to feel like I had a say in the plans. I wanted to be more agreeable than disagreeable that’s why the ratio between yesses and nos were 3 to 1, but at the same time I didn’t want them thinking that I just said yes no matter what, so I would throw in an occasional no so they thought I really cared and it was all happening exactly how I wanted it to go.
The wedding was fantastic. Much better than it would have been had they listened to any of my ideas that I occasionally threw out there to fill in dead space between conversations. (one of them being putting live gold fish in all the flower vases and daring little kids to eat them whole. That was a bad idea. I admit it.) However, in all of the planning down to the very last detail there was one thing that was overlooked. My socks. That was the one thing that I had not been instructed on. It was the one thing that I was able to do whatever I decided I wanted to do, and so I went with all of my groomsmen and together we picked out the craziest socks we could find. Some of them had dessert scenes, some had superheroes, some had flamingos, and others had crazy designs. I personally wore taco socks. When it was time to take pictures we all posed for the photographer, and then she divided us up into families, and then bridesmaids and then groomsmen, and when it was the groomsmen’s turn to take a picture we all lifted up our pants and showed all of our crazy socks. It was great. I love crazy socks.
