Flooding the Earth
I have spent enough time trying to teach my grandparents how to log into Facebook to know that teaching a 70 year old about Social Media is no easy task. So when Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles announces that the General Authorities (most of which are above the age of 70) are all going to be active on several different forms of Social Media I know that the decision was made knowing that it would be worth the work, and it has.
Personally, a couple years ago I noticed that my life was not going the way that I wanted it to be going. I was feeling down more often, and I was struggling to keep my thoughts clean and good. I couldn't figure out why I was having such a hard time until I started trying to pick out patterns in my life. What was I doing when those thoughts and feelings would come most often? It didn't take long before I realized that it was revolving around my social media habits. I had too much negativity that I was consuming and not enough light. As soon as I noticed that I looked up every single one of the Apostles who had a social media account and started following them. I also slowly unfollowed all of the accounts that I noticed were bringing negativity into my life. The difference was amazing.
Social media really does have a profound impact on all of our lives. What we choose to consume will eventually consume us, whether good or bad. Choosing to shut out the bad, and invite the good has made all the difference in the world in my life.
